BHB solution in the ALKYLATION UNIT OF sines refinery
BHB was selected by GALP, S.A. to provide the humidity measurement system in the butylene flow of the Alkylation Unit, in the Sines Refinery, Portugal.
Petrogal, S.A. maintained the confidence and long partnership it has with BHB, adjudicating a new solution to measure the moisture in the butylene flow of its Alkylation Unit of the Sines Refinery.
The project contemplated the supply of an analysis system based on the extractive method, performing the sample collection in the liquid phase, then being sent to an evaporator and subsequently transported to an analyzer, completing the route in the existing flare unit.
In this project BHB employed the recognized SS2100 analyzer of its representative Spectra Sensors. The measuring principle is absorption spectrometry by means of laser beams, reducing the response time (not having direct contact with the gas sample, the real-time measurements are not affected by moisture variations to which surface sensors are sensitive) and ensuring longevity and the availability of the analyzer (the TDL sensor does not enter in contact with the gas flow sample, therefore it does not suffer from any contamination or drift due to impurities such as: glycol vapor, methanol or amines).
The SS2100 analyzer is an ATEX solution specially indicated for harsh environments.
BHB also performed the mechanical works, including the implementation of new tie ins, the installation of stainless steel piping from the sampling point to the evaporator, the sample transport line from the evaporator to the analyzer and the supply of all the supports and control panels necessary for the application.
BHB was also responsible for the electrical works, being in charge of the installation of power supply and signal cables (analogic and binary) as well as all the utilities necessary for the application (power supply, air for the instruments and calibration standards). The assembly and installation of power and signal interface boxes was also included in the project scope.
The project schedule was concluded during the General 2014 shutdown, this period contemplating the Commissioning, the Equipment Testing and the Training of the technical staff.
